
MMEA FESTIVALS
The Massachusetts Music Educators Association (MMEA) and its five districts host festivals each year that feature advanced student musicians from throughout the state who are selected through auditions.
Solo
Perform the solo listed in the audition list.
Scales
Perform full-range major scales and the chromatic scale from memory.
Sight Reading
Sight read an excerpt from Sight Reading Factory.
Improvise/Comp
Jazz auditionees must also improvise over/comp the changes of their solo.
Needham High School is a member of MMEA's Eastern District. Students in the region are selected for the annual Senior and Junior Festivals through audition processes in early November and late January, respectively.

Students are selected for the All State festival through a rigorous, statewide audition process in January at Shrewsbury High School. A score in the top 50% of an MMEA district festival audition is required in order to qualify for an All State audition.
Those selected for All State are among the top high school musicians in the Commonwealth and will rehearse and perform in honors ensembles at Boston Symphony Hall in March.
Eastern District includes the towns and cities of Acton, Bedford, Boston, Boxborough, Brookline, Cambridge, Carlisle, Concord, Dedham, Dover, Framingham, Lincoln, Littleton, Medfield, Millis, Milton, Natick, Needham, Newton, Quincy, Sherborn, Somerville, Sudbury, Waltham, Watertown, Wayland, Wellesley, Westford, Weston, and Westwood.
